Francis’ son, Henry Dana Sr., was a well-respected writer, poet, and non-practicing lawyer. He signed the Articles of Confederation in 1778 and served on the Supreme Court of Massachusetts for many years. Francis was sent to England in 1775 to settle differences with our English cousins. Dana’s grandfather, Francis (4th) was well known as a delegate to the Continental Congress and a lawyer and statesman. made his mark as a defender of fugitive slaves and indentured seamen.
